Only few things have witnessed the whole history of Turku. One of these things is so remarkable that it is globally unique and extraordinary beautiful. The thing is the archipelago of Turku.
PELAGO is a pavilion that brings the archipelago in the city center. The pavilion consists of seven individual and unique islands that are floating in the river Aura. A single island provides a small-scale space excluding the outside world away. When joined together, they form an unified composition, an archipelago, which is linked to each other creating a bigger scene for the happenings.
The materials and the colours that are used in the pavilion are depicting the ones that can be found around Turku. The individual islands can also be situated separately along the riverside, when they offer places for many different purposes.
LABRA is an emerging design collective founded by two young finnish designers. We share the desire to design and the way of thinking. In our opinion the best results are achieved by a good design process. We are not satisfied with ordinary solutions.
"Let's see, what happens, when we mix these ingredients together and add just a little bit of that?" Laboratoric approach to design tasks forms our methodology. We try to find new ideas and create fresh architecture with an experimental attitude. Discovering the best formula is our goal.
Our first teamproject in 2010 was immediately succesful: we broke into top five and received a purchase prize in an open architecture competition in Turku, Finland. The competition gathered almost 200 designers from ten countries including many distinguished architecture offices.
LABRA will shortly participate in coming competitions after such a great start.

Erkko Aarti (1986), student of architecture
I enjoy working with challenging design tasks and participating actively in architecture and design competitions. Practical experience I have gained from working in architecture offices in Finland. At the moment I work at APRT architects.
Creative and refreshing new ideas that can be found in everyday life inspire me. In order to relax, I like doing something that allows me to express myself. I enjoy playing guitar, composing music, painting and writing. I try to avoid being stuck on routines and constantly aim at updating my perspectives and thinking.
I have three years´ studies at Aalto University School of Science and Technology, Department of Architecture and a basis of one year studies at Department of Structural Engineering and Building Technology.

Arto Ollila (1985), student of architecture
Besides different fields of design, my interests are exploring the urban and unbuilt environments in numerous ways. Rock climbing, windsurfing, skiing, cycling and chilling to name a few of my methods.
After gaining experience as a carpenter and a construction worker for some years, I currently work at the architecture office AA-R. There I have been involved in many winning architecture competition proposals. In addition, I have also been successful in my own participations for design competitions.
